You have been a refuge for the poor,
a refuge for the needy in their distress,
a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat.

~Isaiah 25:4a~

Sometimes it can feel as if we’re drowning in stormy seas as waves of discouragement, hopelessness, and despair crash over us.  It can be downright difficult, and oh so painful when life just won’t let up.

Maybe you have been at odds with your best friend for weeks because of a hurtful comment she made regarding how you parent your children.  Or perhaps your husband is addicted to pornography, and it’s crushing your self-esteem and killing your spirit?  Or maybe, you have been battling chronic health issues for years and they only seem to be getting worse and not better?  Or your teenage son that has been hanging with the wrong crowd is now getting into trouble with the law?  You’re tired and weary soul longs for rest and comfort.  But you just can’t seem to catch a break.

Remember sweet sister, when the storms of this life are raging all around you, and you can’t seem to find your way through the rain and darkness to call out to the One who calms the storms with His hand — our holy and beloved Savior, Jesus Christ.  He’s there.  He’s ready and waiting to calm the raging storm within you and give you the peace you are longing for.

Now on one of those days Jesus and His disciples got into a boat, and He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side of the lake (Sea of Galilee).” So they set out. But as they were sailing, He fell asleep.  And a fierce gale of wind swept down [as if through a wind tunnel] on the lake, and they began to be swamped, and were in great danger. They came to Jesus and woke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we are about to die!” He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging, violent waves, and they ceased, and it became calm [a perfect peacefulness]. And He said to them, “Where is your faith [your confidence in Me]?” They were afraid and astonished, saying to one another, “Who then is this, that He commands even the winds and the sea, and they obey Him?”

The Lord’s our rock, in Him we hide,
A shelter in the time of storm;
Secure whatever ill betide,
A shelter in the time of storm.

Oh, Jesus is a rock in a weary land,
A weary land, a weary land;
Oh, Jesus is a rock in a weary land,
A shelter in the time of storm.

A shade by day, defense by night,
A shelter in the time of storm;
No fears alarm, no foes afright,
A shelter in the time of storm.

The raging storms may round us beat,
A shelter in the time of storm
We’ll never leave our safe retreat,
A Shelter in the time of storm.

O rock divine, O refuge dear,
A shelter in the time of storm;
Be Thou our helper ever near,

A Shelter in the time of storm.
